I chose the Discovery of the Titanic because I find the events and stories surrounding the sinking of the Titanic extremely interesting and thought the man who discovered it on the ocean floor would offer a new side to the story. Dr. Ballard, the author, is qualified to write on this topic because he was one of the scientists who first found the Titanic using new technologies.

I chose Quiet because it is a book about introverts and their stories in a world that glamorizes extroverts. I wanted to read more about the differences between extroverts and introverts and how it affects their successes. Also I was interested in reading about the qualities of introverts that make them valuable to society. Susan Cain is qualified to write about this topic because she did extensive research about introverts and their stories. This cumulation of research became Quiet.

I chose The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell because of my experience reading Outliers, another book by Gladwell. The Tipping Point discusses the study of human behaviors and analyzes how the smallest things can have the largest impact on society. Gladwell is an author for the New Yorker Magazine and is considered an expert in the fields of psychology, sociology, and social psychology.

I chose to read The Glass Castle by Jeannatte Walls because I was told it is a very good book. After reading the synopsis on the back cover, I learned Walls' parents were two interesting people, and I wanted to know more. Jeannatte Walls is qualified to write on this topic because it is a memoir of her life. She did, in fact, live the story she is telling.

I chose I am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban by Malala Yousafazai because, in truth, I find it remarkable that a young woman almost lost her life fighting for something that I take for granted everyday. Yousafazai was my age when she was shot through the head while on her way to school one morning. I hope to learn more about the struggle for women's education both in Pakistan and around the world and what Yousafazai has contributed to the cause. Herself having been shot as a result of her efforts to promote girls' education in Pakistan, it's evident that perhaps no one understand more thoroughly the struggle at hand. Despite the horror of what happened to her, Yousafazai is an advocate of peaceful progress, a trait shared by all great humanitarians throughout history. Since the incident, Yousafasai has worked closely with the United Nations to better the situation in Pakistan and ranks as the youngest person ever to be nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.

I chose the book Columbine because the book was recommended to me by numerous people. The book is written by Dave Cullen, a writer for many newspaper and magazine companies. He spent ten years researching the Columbine Massacre. In that ten years he moved to Denver and interviewed countless witnesses and parents of the students involved.

I chose Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. I have previously read Blink by Gladwell and enjoyed it thoroughly. Also, a friend of mine strongly recommended Outliers. Gladwell is qualified for this due to his interest in interesting stories and interesting research. Gladwell has researched various stories and piled sums of information for each of his books. He uses various stories throughout his writing, which he cites and acknowledges throughout, giving him credibility.

I chose The Hot Zone because I read the summary on the back of the book and it seemed very interesting that anything could kill 90% of its victims! That's unheard of. Richard Preston is qualified to write about these viruses because he has talked to multiple researchers that have done experiments with this deadly virus. He also witnessed the virus at work firsthand in Africa.

I chose to read Scratch Beginnings by Adam Shepard. It seems like a very inspiring story and I'm interested to see how he transforms from somebody who has nothing to a self supporting citizen. It was also recommended to me by a few people who said that it was a good book. Shepard is qualified for this because this was his own personal experience. He lived through the events that take place in the book and then decided to share his story with the world to show the struggles he endured and to inspire others to work hard in life.

I chose Lone Survivor because I wanted to know more about the lives of Navy SEALs and specifically the mission to Afghanistan in which Marcus Luttrell was part of. This book has been recommended by many people to me along with the movie and I thought it would be a very moving, insightful story. Marcus Luttrell was a member of the SEAL team assigned to Operation Redwing and he writes an eyewitness account of the events that him and his team experienced.

Muffed the first response.. Hold up... I chose the book Into the Wild. This book recounts a young college graduate of a successful family who leaves everything behind to go on a spiritual cross-country journey to Alaska. I chose this book because the main character is just a free spirit who broke away from the conformities of life. It's about the most manly experience that you can go on. I like the fact that he challenges the way people live life and follow the "norm". In a sense I feel for him, I feel like I'm a challenger myself and it inspires me to not follow some of the basic guidelines people think they should live by, but at the same time not be a total hippy and go overboard like the guy does in this book. The author is definitely qualified to write this book due to his passion on the topic. It's clear in the authors note that he's a fanatic on the subject.

I chose this book, because slavery interests me. I find there is so much controversy on the topic of how these people were treated an I want to know the facts. I want to know the real story and who better to learn from than the man who lived it. This is his story, and his experiences, the raw facts.

I chose David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell. I chose this book because I previously read Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell and I really liked the book and his writing style so I wanted to read another one of his books. His credentials for writing this book are that he has been a writer for many years. Both of book and articles for The New Yorker. He has written enough that he has met the 10,000 hour rule to be considered an expert at something that he explained in Outliers.

I chose the book into the wild because after reading the first two chapters, i was really drawn in because of the way the author chose to tell the story. This was the authors first big book published in 1996 followed by many more ( into thin air, everest, etc.) but he is still qualified because he is an outdoorsman which helps his writing that mainly focuses outdoor things, such as living in the wild.

I chose The Hot Zone because it details a killer virus that broke out in Washington D.C. several decades ago. It initially peaked my interest because I wanted to learn the specifics behind the virus and how I had never even heard of the devastating outbreak. The book's author, Richard Preston, is qualified to write the book as he cites scientists' research on the virus, interviews victims and subjects, and observes the virus himself. He is also a critically acclaimed author, winning numerous awards and contributing to The New Yorker.
