I chose Friday Night Lights by H. G. Bissinger because I feel like I will be able to relate to the book. Its about high school football and I play it so i will understand the story easily. Bissinger was a sports writer for The Daily Pennsylvanian so he is experienced with the subject.

I chose "Scratch Beginnings" as my IRP. Katie Lincoln recommended this book, but it also caught my interest because of the realness that it portrays. The author is just out of college and still holds onto hope and want to show that the American Dream is still alive. Adam Shepard is qualified to write this book because he has no qualifications. The point of the book is to show that you can achieve yours goals and dreams when you have nothing. Shepard is going into the unknown with no experience or money to accomplish just that.

I chose The Devil in the White City because the story was something that caught my attention. I've also heard good and bad things about it and thought I should try it out for myself. The author, Erik Larson has written 6 non-fiction books including this one and has been a featured writer in The Wall Street Journal and Time magazine. He has also spoken to audiences across the country and taught non-fiction writing at San Francisco State, the Johns Hopkins Writing Seminars and the University of Oregon.

I chose to read The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls because it was recommended to me by a few people. When I picked it up, it seemed like an interesting story about the author's crazy childhood yet having to grow up "too fast." Being a lover of anyone's childhood stories, I felt like The Glass Castle would be an excellent novel to endure in. Walls must speak her autobiography through experiences and memories that have made her who she is today.

I chose Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer because I read his other book Into Thin Air and I really liked it. Im interested to see how and why Chris made the choices he did. Jon Krakauer is a mountaineer, and is known for his writings about the outdoors making him the right man for the job when telling the story of Christopher Johnson McCandless.

I chose Etched in Sand by Regina Calcaterra because it was a story that caught my attention. The story of 5 young children being in foster care and homeless their whole lives caught my eye. This book is Calcaterra's memoir and states many of the awful events she and her siblings went through throughout their childhood.

I chose the book "In Cold Blood" because this was one of the first books to catch my eye. I think that it sounds intriguing since it was in the 1960's. Truman Capote wrote short stories, novels, plays and nonfiction. He studied the story of the murder in a small Kansas City and received the help from Harper Lee who wrote the well know book called "To Kill a Mockingbird".

I chose The Zookeeper's Wife because it caught my eye from the shelf but then as I picked it up and read the back it sounded like an interesting story. Based during the Holocaust, this couple hides people in the animal cages of their zoo, it sounds extremely dangerous and risky but I think that it'll be a great book. Diane Ackerman has had previous work posted in National Geographics, The New Yorker and The New York Times. She has been known for her naturalistic work and has taught at previous universities like Cornell and Columbia.

I chose to read From Baghdad With Love. I saw the picture of a puppy on the cover so I picked it up and read the description. This book is about a soldier who found an abandoned puppy named Lava and raised him. The authors qualification is that this is a first person story and based on his actual experiences in Baghdad.

I chose Friday Night Lights because it seemed like a book I would like. I love sports books, so the book looked interesting to me right from the start when I saw the cover. The book is about how a Texas town rallies around its high school football team. The qualifications the author has are that he has first hand encounters with the town and based the novel off of the stories told by the people who have lived in Odessa, TX.

The author, H.G. Bissenger, also won the Pulitzer Prize, so that also qualifies him to write this book.

I chose to read Blink. I chose this book because it goes into the topic of psychology and how our brains work at the subcontious level. Based on the description of the book it seems like it will be very interesting. The author, Malcom Gladwell, is a staff writer for the New York Times, and also wrote The Tipping Point, which I have heard a lot of good things about.

I chose the book "A Patriots Calling" by Maj. Dan Rooney. The book is about a man who served in the air force as a fighter pilot, played professional golf, and set up a charity foundation for veterans and their families. This book interests me because my dad recommended it and I've always thought it would be awesome to fly jets in the air force. The author is qualified to write it because its his personal biography and his first person account of his life.

I chose "Tuesdays with Morrie" because I was told it was similar to the story of Randy Pausch we read earlier in the year, which I enjoyed. (Also it's only 192 pages which is cool too). The author is qualified to write about this topic because how close he was to the character of the story, Morrie.

I choose "A Mighty Long Way" by Carlotta Walls LaNier because the little we discussed about the Little Rock Nine in history class last year seemed very interesting to me and I'd like to learn more about their experience. LaNier is qualified to write about this experience since she was one of the nine and lived through it.

I chose the book Columbine by Dave Cullen because I don't know a lot about the Columbine shooting, and the book is praised for its in-depth coverage of the event from multiple points of view. Dave Cullen is qualified to write about this topic because he did extensive research into the incident through Police files, FBI psychologists, and the boys' tapes and diaries themselves.

I chose the book A Child Called It by Dave Pelzer because it seems very interesting. My mom recommended it to me because the story is so real. I also heard that it was sad and that I might cry reading it but those are the stories that keep me reading. The ones that really touch on the emotions.
